User summary
Storyloft World Builder is the in-app worldbuilding workspace for characters, locations, factions, tech, and other lore tied to a manuscript. Authors searching for Storyloft World Builder or lore tools open it from the editor—not a separate product—so Continuity features like Lore Match and Lore Update can stay in sync with your prose. This overview explains the three modes (Collect, Connect, View), first-run empty states, and settings before you dive into Collect cards or relationship graphs.
What it does
World Builder lives at /manuscripts/[id]/loreboard (internal “loreboard” route; the product name is World Builder). The page title is World Builder with subtitle Your worldbuilding collection. Mode switcher (World Builder mode): Collect | Connect | View. Settings gear opens Settings (including automatic manuscript lore updates). When empty in Collect, you may see the first-run message and a Lore Update opt-in card. Opening from the editor uses the toolbar tooltip World Builder.
Steps
Step 1 — Open a manuscript in the editor
From Books, click a book card to open the manuscript editor.
Step 2 — Click World Builder (globe)
In the editor toolbar, click the globe control (World Builder). Storyloft opens World Builder for that manuscript. If the control is missing, World Builder may be disabled for this environment.
Step 3 — Read the page header and return path
Confirm World Builder / Your worldbuilding collection. Use the back arrow (left) when you want to return to the manuscript editor.
Step 4 — Switch between Collect, Connect, and View
Use the mode buttons:
- Collect — add and edit lore cards/table
- Connect — 2D relationship canvas
- View — 3D constellation exploration
Start in Collect if your library is empty.
Step 5 — Open Settings when you need Lore Update preferences
Click the gear (World Builder settings). In Settings, review the switch that updates manuscript lore automatically (On / Off). Details are in the Lore Update help article.
Step 6 — Complete first-run Collect empty state (if shown)
On an empty Collect board you may see copy such as Let’s get to lork. and Add and manage your lore here., plus the Lore Update card (Yes / Maybe later). Add your first lore item with the + create control to leave the empty state.
Step 7 — Jump to deeper workflows
From here: build cards in Collect, draw links in Connect, explore in View, open Technology Tree for tech types, and write with Lore Match overlays back in the editor.
Tips
- Always open World Builder from the manuscript it belongs to—lore is per book.
- Prefer Collect first, Connect second, View for exploration.
- Loading states show Loading lore…; errors may show Could not load World Builder.
- Account preference World Building / Research Cards controls Lore Match while writing—separate from this page’s Settings gear.
