User summary
Authors comparing a Storyloft subscription want clear pricing, what Free includes, and how Pro or Lifetime unlocks unlimited manuscripts, Eddy, series, and advanced tools. Storyloft sells plans on the Subscribe page with monthly or yearly Pro billing and a one-time Lifetime option. Billing details—payment methods, invoices, cancellation—live in Stripe’s secure portal via Manage Billing on your account. This guide explains plan choices, how to check out, and how to renew if access lapses.
What it does
The Subscribe page (/subscribe) presents three paths:
- Start Free — begin without a card; limits apply (for example, manuscript/word caps, image credits, Eddy conversation limits as listed on the page).
- Storyloft Pro — monthly or yearly via the Month / Year toggle; marketed as unlimited manuscripts, series, research tools, data visualizations, footnotes/endnotes/themes, and unlimited Eddy.
- Lifetime Access — one-time purchase including Pro capabilities plus future features/updates as listed on the card.
Paid checkout uses Stripe. After payment you return to Books with a success confirmation. Publish (the in-app print-on-demand workflow) requires an active Unlimited or Lifetime subscription in the product—upgrade if Publish is hidden or blocked.
Steps
Step 1 — Open the Subscribe page
In Storyloft, go to /subscribe, or click Upgrade to Pro from Books (free users), Renew Subscription from a payment banner, or Upgrade to publish from Publish when ineligible. New signups may land on Subscribe automatically (?signup=1).
Step 2 — Compare Free, Pro, and Lifetime
Read the three cards:
- Start Free — $0, CTA Start Free (continues to Books).
- Storyloft Pro (Most popular) — $39/month or $398/year depending on the Month / Year toggle; CTA Go Pro.
- Lifetime Access — promotional lifetime price as shown (for example $399); CTA Get Lifetime Access.
Trust copy on the page includes a 30-day money-back guarantee and Cancel anytime messaging for subscriptions.
Step 3 — Choose monthly or yearly for Pro
If you want Pro, set the billing toggle to Month or Year. Helper text updates to show monthly vs annual Pro billing. Lifetime is a separate card (not controlled by the toggle).
Step 4 — Start checkout
Click Go Pro or Get Lifetime Access. Storyloft may show Redirecting to secure checkout… then opens Stripe Checkout. Complete payment with your card. On success you return to Books with a payment success toast.
Step 5 — Manage Billing from your account
Click Manage Account in the sidebar footer (/account). Open Billing & Subscription. Review Plan: and Renews: (when applicable). Click Manage Billing to open the Stripe Customer Portal—update payment methods, view invoices, and manage the subscription. Portal return brings you back toward Books.
Step 6 — Upgrade later or restore access
If your account shows an upgrade prompt such as Upgrade to True Unlimited, use Upgrade from Account when offered. If you see a grace/expired banner (Your subscription has expired…), click Renew Subscription or open Subscribe again. From a payment-failed overlay on Books, use Update payment info to reach the billing portal.
Tips
- All listed prices are USD; taxes may apply (page footer).
- Free can be enough to try the editor; Pro unlocks the “unlimited / series / Eddy without caps” tier described on Subscribe.
- Manage Billing needs an existing Stripe customer—if you never paid, Subscribe first.
- Publish eligibility is tied to Unlimited/Lifetime in-app even when marketing bullets mention ebook & print tools—see Publish getting started if the Publish nav item is missing.
- Keep the email on your account current; receipts and magic sign-in codes go there.
