User summary
The Storyloft editor Notes panel keeps research and reminders beside your draft—scoped to the current chapter/section or pulled from your global library. Authors searching for Assign note or Manuscript notes use this right-side panel, while the full Notes app (/notes) handles binders, tags, and long-form library editing. Knowing both surfaces prevents “where did my note go?” confusion.
What it does
- Toolbar Notes opens a panel with tabs Manuscript and Library
- Manuscript: filters All, Here ({n}), Unassigned; create Note; default title New note
- Assign menu: Assign, Clear, Reassign (+ Reassign note dialog)
- Pills Manuscript note; warnings Unlinked when headings move
- Library tab embeds search (Search notes…), All Binders, read-focused list
Steps
Step 1 — Open Notes in the editor
Open a book from Books. Click toolbar Notes (aria Toggle Notes).
Step 2 — Stay on the Manuscript tab for chapter notes
Confirm Manuscript is selected. Check the context line (current chapter/section or No chapter in view).
Step 3 — Create a note
Click Note / Create note. Title defaults to New note—rename in the Title field and write in Write your note….
Step 4 — Assign the note to the current section
Open Assign note → Assign to attach to the current chapter/section. Toast Note Assigned confirms.
Step 5 — Filter what you see
Use Here for notes on the current place, Unassigned for orphans, or All. Empty copy explains when nothing matches.
Step 6 — Reassign or clear when structure changes
Use Reassign → choose a chapter → Update, or Clear to unlink. If you see Unlinked, the old heading was removed—Assign again or clear.
Step 7 — Browse Library notes without leaving the editor
Switch to Library, search, filter binders, and open/copy as needed. For full create/edit with tags and binders, go to sidebar Notes.
Tips
- Opening Notes may close Comments or Version History.
- Eddy Save to Notes typically targets library notes—not necessarily chapter assignment.
- Use comments for passage critique; notes for research blobs.
- Manuscript notes also appear on
/notesunder Scope Manuscripts only.
