Steps
Step 1 — Open Eddy in Book Controls
From Books, open a manuscript. On the right, open Book Controls and click the Eddy tab (often selected by default).
Step 2 — Pick a starter prompt or ask a question
If the chat is empty, click a starter card (for example Build my book outline, Clarify my story idea, or Draft my opening on a blank book). Or type in Ask about your writing… and send. When text is selected in the manuscript, you may see Selection Detected and actions like Rewrite in my voice.
Step 3 — Add Research documents (optional)
Click the paperclip (Add document to Research) in the composer, or switch the Eddy dropdown to Research and click Upload. In Document Uploads, drag a file or browse—PDF, Word, or TXT. Wait until status shows ready (Document ready for Eddy / success toast Document added to Research).
Step 4 — Use voice input when you prefer speaking
Click Start voice input (allow the microphone if prompted). Speak your request, then Stop voice input. If you see Walkie Talkie Mode, you can press and hold the shortcut to talk; choose Don’t show again on the toast if you prefer.
Step 5 — Let Eddy write into the manuscript
When Eddy applies tools that insert or rewrite prose, watch for Streaming content to editor… and review the canvas. Messages may show Written in your voice. Undo in the editor if a change misses the mark, then ask Eddy to try another approach.
Step 6 — Save useful replies and manage the chat
Under helpful answers, click Save to Notes to keep them. Use Reset chat when you want a fresh thread. For outline flows, follow on-screen Outline planning mode / Exit when shown.
Step 7 — Open full screen for deep sessions
Click Open Eddy in full screen. Work across Eddy, Insights, and Research tabs, then Close full screen chat or press Esc.
