Binders & Organizing Library Notes in Storyloft

TL;DR

On Notes, use the left Binders list: click Add Binder, name it, Create Binder, then filter with binder names or All Notes. Open a note and choose Add to Binder to file it. Binders organize library notes—not chapter links (use editor Assign for that).

User summary

Storyloft binders group library notes like folders—research binders, interview binders, worldbuilding offcuts—so /notes stays navigable as your archive grows. Authors searching for Add Binder or Add to Binder use the Notes sidebar and note editor dropdown. Binders do not attach notes to manuscript chapters; that linking is Assign / Reassign in the editor Manuscript notes panel. Tags complement binders for cross-cutting labels.

What it does

On /notes:

  • Section Binders
  • Add Binder → dialog Create New Binder / Binder Name / Create Binder
  • All Notes plus per-binder rows with counts
  • Delete binder: Delete Binder? — notes remain under All Notes
  • In note editor: Add to Binder dropdown
  • Editor Library tab filter: All Binders

Chapter/book linking for manuscript notes: editor Assign / Reassign / Clear (separate feature).

Steps

Step 1 — Open Notes

Go to sidebar Notes.

Step 2 — Create a binder

Click Add Binder. In Create New Binder, enter Binder Name (placeholder Enter binder name) and click Create Binder.

Step 3 — View All Notes or a binder

Click All Notes for everything, or a binder name to filter the list to that group.

Step 4 — File a note into a binder

Open or create a library note. Use Add to Binder and select the binder. Confirm any success toast about the move.

Step 5 — Use binders while browsing from the editor

In the manuscript editor Notes → Library tab, filter with All Binders / a binder name to find research quickly.

Step 6 — Delete a binder without losing notes

Use the binder delete control → Delete Binder?Delete Binder. Notes remain available under All Notes.

For manuscript-scoped notes tied to headings, open editor Notes → Manuscript, create/open a note, and Assign to the current chapter/section—not via binders.

Tips

  • Name binders by project phase (Interviews, Sources, Cut scenes).
  • Combine binders (coarse) with tags (fine).
  • Empty library copy may say Your Binder Is Empty—create a New Note first.
  • Don’t expect binders to appear as chapter assignments; those are different controls.
