Authors searching for Version History or New Version use the editor toolbar control labeled Book Versions (panel title Version History). Versions complement auto-saving—they are intentional checkpoints, not a substitute for Comments or Notes.

Steps
Step 1 — Open the manuscript editor
From Books, open the book you want to checkpoint.
Step 2 — Open Book Versions
Click toolbar Book Versions. Confirm the panel title Version History.
Step 3 — Name the checkpoint
Type a clear label in Version name (for example “Before act 2 rewrite”). Empty names trigger Please enter a version name.
Step 4 — Create New Version
Click New Version and wait for Creating version… to finish. The snapshot appears in the list.
Step 5 — Keep writing or create more checkpoints
Add versions before risky edits, collaborator passes, or Editorial Review marathons.
Step 6 — Restore an earlier version
Find the snapshot and click Restore. Wait through Restoring version…. If you see Editor isn’t ready, try again momentarily.
Step 7 — Verify the canvas
Skim the restored manuscript. Create a new version immediately after restore if you want a bookmark of the restored state.
Tips
- Name versions by intent (“Pre-agent pass”, “Agent draft v3”), not only dates.
- Restore overwrites current editor content with that snapshot—coordinate with collaborators.
- If create fails, check connection / refresh; error may mention collaboration provider support.
- Versions ≠ Comments threads and ≠ library Notes.
